Our Brews

Since the beginning, our mission has been to brew a variety of seasonals that offer something unique to the world of beer. So far, we've brought the following new brews to the tasting room at our brewery.

Golden Lager
A delightful alternative to mainstream American lagers; our flagship beer, Black Star Golden Lager is a full bodied traditional American beer. Our unique double hopping process gives this beer a pronounced hop aroma and a crisp refreshing finish.

Amber Export
Silver Medal Winner at the 1998 Great American Beer Festival, Amber Export is a smooth and highly drinkable amber lager. The use of 100% cascade hops imparts a refreshing aroma that pleases even the most discerning palette.

Black Lager
Black Lager was our first seasonal beer. It was created for Halloween, which is probably the biggest party night of the year in Whitefish. A true local holiday, everyone dresses up for it. All of the bars have drink specials and costume contests, even the bartenders dress up.

When we created Black Lager, we wanted to make a beer that was similar to a porter in flavor but was essentially a dark lager. We aimed for a mellow chocolatey roasted flavor with a dry finish comparable to a Guinness. It most recently won a bronze medal at the 1999 GABF.

Snow Ghost Special Edition Winter Lager
Snow Ghost is brewed using fuggles and a small amount of chocolate malts, giving this beer low bitterness and a slightly sweet character. Snow Ghost is a local favorite for Apres Ski, Apres Snowshoe or Apres Hunting.

Wheatfish Unfiltered Wheat Lager
Our Wheatfish enters the increasingly popular Hefeweizen category. Rather than filtering out the yeast, the beer is racked into kegs directly from the fermenter while the yeast is still in suspension. Our only unfiltered beer, Wheatfish has a smooth, light body, a fresh, yeasty aroma and a pleasant fruity aftertaste. Served alone or with lemon, it is guaranteed to quench your thirst.

Wild Huckleberry Wheat Lager
In honor of the huckleberries that grow wild throughout the Flathead Valley, we unveiled this summer brew in the spring of 1996. A combination of 75% Western pale malted barley, 25% malted wheat, Cascade hops and wild huckleberry juice from the Flathead Valley, were used to create this highly drinkable, thirst-quenching lager. A delightfully unique fruit beer, this pale summer brew combines the crisp, dry refreshment of a light lager with a subtle, tart hint of huckleberries that is neither sweet nor overpowering.

Big Fog Amber Lager
Named after the legendary fog that surrounds the Big Mountain, Big Fog was intended to be our holiday brew. Big Fog's rich copper color and spicy hop character make it perfect for the cold Montana winter. But, again, the way people have taken to it around here, we've decided to keep brewing it long after the spring thaw.
